IDOCs » Gaga – Ohad Naharin movement language
In the Time of 2008-2010 I travelled several times to Israel to practice the gaga movement Languages of Ohad Naharin. In this time I wrote about the classes and wrote together with Evelyn Klöti an Essay/Diary of what we experienced. Bellow I wrote in short sentences an example of a class experienced. Basic Gaga-rules are: (own interpretation :) A bunch of people constantly moving with the eyes open, following the tasks given by a teacher in a locked studio without mirrors – but with pleasure, passion and power… “No dead flesh”

Improvisation Class (with Yaniv dancer from the compagny this was part of a workshop done at gaga intensive)

  •  To move as a mover and a human being forgetting about what is a dancer and his attitudes.
  • Free improvisation small groups and the other people watch and observe what they see.
  • Enjoy and be silly don’t take yourself so important.

Each improvisation had different tasks and time structures (1.Min-10.Min) like:

  • Moving in different structure/texture
  • Different stories to change or develop stories
  • Different state of mind
  • Try to dance and be like someone else around you
  • Getting in interaction with others
  • Look at other people

The teacher can say change/or clapping in his hands and the moving people have to follow the advice.
